Increasingly the medical community recommends engaging in physical activity to promote health. While sports and recreation activities can certainly be pleasurable and provide fitness benefits, they can also damage the body, and in any case are not efficient means to achieve physical health.

People tend to attribute their general health to their active lifestyle, but the correct line of thinking is that they are able to enjoy their active lifestyle because of their general health, which will deteriorate with age unless one takes steps to the contrary.
